The Service Authority Wins Premier VA AWWA Public Information Award

VA AWWA Community Outreach Award

The Service Authority won the Community Relations category of the Virginia Chapter of the American Water Works Association’s (VA AWWA)  first-ever Public Information Awards, which was established  to recognize excellence in public communications practices among member utilities. The Chapter called for entries in three public information categories:  Community Relations, Crisis Management and External Newsletters. Submissions were due by May 1, 2010.

Communications Department members Sheri Pierce and Amelia Sullivan crafted a detailed entry showcasing the Authority’s most well-known community outreach program, the Water Art Invitational. Each year, the art contest draws the participation of several hundred Prince William County high school students and teachers while also increasing appreciation for the essential services the Authority provides to more than a quarter of a million people throughout the county every day.

On September 22, Community Outreach Coordinator Sheri Pierce accepted a striking water-themed trophy on behalf of the Authority at the Business and Awards Luncheon hosted during VA AWWA’s 2010 WaterJAM Conference in Hampton, Virginia. The SA Board of Directors also recognized the win  during the October 14, 2010, Board of Directors meeting.
