Mooney Plant and Education Center Tours

Situated on the campus of the Service Authority's award-winning H.L. Mooney Advanced Water Reclamation Facility (AWRF) in Woodbridge, the Grubbs Environmental Center features a state-of-the-art 6,200-square-foot laboratory space and an educational exhibit detailing the life cycle of treated water and the important role the Mooney AWRF plays in keeping the Chesapeake Bay Watershed healthy.

There is a five-step process that influent wastewater to the AWRF undergoes.

Odor Concerns

To report an odor concern about the H.L. Mooney Advanced Water Reclamation Facility (AWRF), please call the Service Authority Customer Service Department at (703) 335-7950 during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. During weekends or afterhours, please call our Dispatch Office at (703) 335-7990.

Wastewater Treatment Plants

H.L. Mooney Advanced Water Reclamation Facility

The H. L. Mooney Advanced Water Reclamation Facility (AWRF) is located in eastern Prince William County along the U.S. 1 corridor near the Potomac River. The facility treats influent wastewater from customers located in the eastern half of the County.

The Facility was named for Mr. H. L. Mooney, the former Administrator of the Occoquan-Woodbridge-Dumfries-Triangle Sanitary District.
