A Vocational Venture

The Prince William County Service Authority has partnered with the Prince William County Schools’ Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program in order to connect with high school students interested in working in the water and wastewater industry after graduation.

The Service Authority hopes to take advantage of the school system’s recent expansion of its career and technical curriculum in order to find potential workers for a variety of positions throughout the organization. Currently, Prince William County high school students can take classes in plumbing, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and welding.

“So many kids in our school system have a narrow focus or idea about the careers that are out there,” said Mary Beth. “We would love to see our students take advantage of employment opportunities they may not be aware of and stay here in the community.”

“Our goal with this partnership is to share available employment opportunities with students and expand, where possible, the school system’s current curriculum,” said Service Authority Human Resources Manager Hilary Smith. “This partnership will offer these young adults rewarding career opportunities and a chance for career advancement in their respective fields.”
