Community Outreach

As Virginia’s largest combined water and wastewater provider and an environmental steward of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, the Service Authority informs and educates its 350,000 customers in a variety of innovative ways. The utility's dedication to community engagement has led the Service Authority to be the recipient of numerous national, state, and local awards for public outreach.

Community Presentations

Presentations are available year-round to community groups, civic associations and homeowners associations. Topics range from a basic overview of the Service Authority and its services to infrastructure projects in individual neighborhoods and environmental stewardship. Community Events

The Service Authority participates in large annual events like Earth Day as well as smaller community events throughout the year. The Service Authority uses interactive games and trivia to educate event attendees about drinking water, wastewater treatment and the environment. For large events, the SA can also provide tap water and reusable water bottles from its AquaVan. The AquaVan is also available to make appearances in parades.

School Outreach

The Service Authority's award-winning school outreach program focuses on delivering water-based lesson plans to students in Prince William County Schools as well as local private and home schools. Our Community Outreach team brings Virginia Standard of Learning (SOL) aligned, interactive programs to classrooms from kindergarten through Grade 12. Visit our Classroom Outreach page to learn more.

The Service Authority also holds annual competitions for public, private and home school students located in Prince William County. The Water Art Invitational (https://www.pwcsa.org/water-art-invitational) encourages high school students to use visual art to depict water as an indispensable resource. For middle school students, the Service Authority holds an annual Model Water Tower Competition, a STEAM-based competition encouraging students to design their own functional model water towers.

Service Authority employees also serve as judges for the annual Prince William-Manassas Regional Science & Engineering Fair. Winning entrants in the Water Art Invitational, Model Water Tower Competition and Regional Science Fair are recognized for their outstanding work by the Service Authority Board of Directors.

We even offer hands-on, remote learning activities! At-home educational activities are now available on H2Go Kids.
