Community Outreach

As Virginia’s largest combined water and wastewater authority and an environmental steward of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, the Service Authority informs and educates its customers in a variety of innovative ways. The utility's dedication to community engagement has led the Service Authority to be the recipient of numerous national, state, and local awards for public outreach.

Please note that a number of these community outreach programs have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure the safety of our community and employees and to maintain social distancing. If you have questions about any of the following, please email outreach@pwcsa.org.

Community Activities

Age-appropriate, water-themed presentations are available for community groups, with topics such as an overview of the Service Authority, sustainable water resources and Service Authority construction projects. These presentations are available in-person or virtually. The Service Authority also supports students by presenting to after-school science clubs, hosting water-themed activities at school STEM nights and providing support for science fairs.

AquaVan Water Trailer

Our mobile water trailer AquaVan is available to refresh and hydrate participants at various community events. The AquaVan is scheduled through the Community Outreach Department. In addition to providing tap water and reusable water bottles from AquaVan, the Service Authority uses games and activities to educate event participants about drinking water, wastewater and the environment.

Classroom Outreach

The Service Authority's award-winning school outreach program focuses on delivering water-based lesson plans to students in Prince William County Schools as well as local private and home schools. Our Community Outreach team brings Virginia Standard of Learning (SOL) aligned, interactive programs to classrooms from kindergarten through Grade 12. Through our new H2Go Kids virtual learning hub, the Service Authority also offers live video conferencing and pre-recorded video lessons for kindergarten through Grade 6. Visit our Classroom Outreach page to learn more and schedule a presentation.

Annual Student Competitions

The Service Authority holds annual competitions for public, private and home school students located in Prince William County. Winning entrants in these competitions are recognized for their outstanding work by the Service Authority Board of Directors.

High School

The Water Art Invitational is open to Prince William County high school students. Participants interpret water-related themes through painting and drawing, photography, computer graphics and mixed media. Winning artists and teachers earn cash prizes and are showcased on social media, a special web page and a video.

H2Go Kids

The H2Go Kids online learning hub provides distance-learning resources for students, parents and teachers. The page includes age-appropriate videos, hands-on activities, worksheets and coloring pages that educate kids about the value of water.

Water Academy

The Water Academy offers adults, college students and high school seniors a behind-the-scenes look at the Service Authority and local water resources. This free, four-session program includes tours, hands-on activities and conversations with our leadership team. Participants have included HOA leaders, business owners, engineers, retirees and teachers, who earn continuing education credits.
